Telehealth consultations
Recent evidence has shown that Telehealth services involving education, lifestyle advice, self-management techniques & exercise programming are as effective in reducing pain and improving function, as traditional consultations. Telehealth is proven to be effective with positive client outcomes for people in rural and remote areas and allows people who are unwell or in isolation with COVID-19 restrictions to access Physiotherapy and Hand Therapy.
Hands on Hands Physio conducted Telehealth consultations successfully since the first stage 3 lockdown in March/April 2020. It continued this innovative practice throughout the numerous Melbourne lockdown periods until 2023 when restrictions lifted. Occasionally Telehealth consultations are conducted today when there are issues with transport or mobility. There is sytill alot which can be achieved through this process as the hand is easily assessed on online.
Possibilities in Hand Therapy
Assessment - subjective and objective can be adapted to suit a video consultation
Diagnosis and education of condition / injury
Targeted progression of exercise programmes
Advice on management of pain / loss of function / lifestyle modification
Self-management techniques

Currently I am conducting the Telehealth consultations at home where I have strong NBN connection. From your end, all you need is a mobile, computer, iPad or laptop with a camera and microphone and a steady internet connection.
Can I use my Private Health for an online Hands on Hands Physio session?
Since 14th April 2020, most private health insurance companies have allowed you to claim your private health insurance rebates for online physiotherapy consultations. You may wish to contact your provider to confirm coverage.
Medicare / Workcover / TAC online consultations
Clients on an Enhanced Primary Care Plan can be assessed and managed online. Worksafe and TAC clients have telehealth codes effective from 20th March 2020. Case conferences have been managed successfully via Zoom between employer, employee, RTW coordinator, and treating therapist.
With Medicare Telehealth consultations the gap fee of $20 is only charged for the initial consultation. With review consults there is no gap payment.
